Namugongo

This is a town in the central region in Wakiso district and its 16km north east of Uganda’s capital Kampala
History– Namugongo was before called Busale but because the prisoners were tortured and dragged on their backs to the execution site, it then created Namugongo until today is a place where the young men who were killed for not denouncing their faith. It’s a place which soaked with blood of courageous men who are now legends written in stones and hearts of believers.

Namugongo shrines
These were built on the 22 pillars representing the 22 Uganda martyrs who were killed for their faith and it’s in form of a round hut for African culture. There are paintings on the walls representing events that took place in history of the martyrs. This was the order given out by king Mwanga II.

Namugongo is situated 11km by road, east of Kampala city and it takes about 32 minutes to get there in a private car.
